Truck Driver Ends Up in Ditch & is Arrested


Dump Truck Driver Faces Charges After Ending Up in a Ditch Near Blair NE.

The Single Vehicle Accident Occurred on October 9, 2015 on Nebraska Highway 91 and County Road 29.

The dump truck was pulling a trailer carrying construction equipment when it went into a ditch around 6:30 p.m.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol, a passenger — Loyd Cherry — jumped from the vehicle due to brake failure. He was transported by Blair Rescue to the Blair Nebraska Memorial Community Hospital. Subsequently, the driver, who was later identified by the owner of the truck as Barney Wells Sr., 37, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, fled the scene.
The Nebraska State Patrol, advised the owner of the truck that Wells needed to return to the scene. The driver, Wells, refused. Upon further investigation by the NE State Patrol, the driver did not have a valid commercial driver's license.

Wells was arrested Saturday in Dodge County, NE. He is charged with obstructing an investigation, a Class I misdemeanor; leaving the scene of an injury accident, a Class II misdemeanor; and operation outside classification of license, a Class III misdemeanor.

The accident remains under investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol.
