According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash appears to have occurred when the front truck was pulling onto the freeway from the shoulder of I-380. The location of the accident was approximately 11 miles south of Cedar Rapids IA.

The front truck was driven by Jose Gonzalez of Chicago Illinois. The rear truck was driven by Jaeson Ross of Rolling Meadows, IL. Ross was taken to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA with serious injuries. Gonzalez was not injured, according to the Iowa State Patrol report.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
