Holden, Maine - Tractor Trailer and Two Car Accident
HOLDEN, ME — The tractor trailer driver involved in a crash on Thursday witnessed the automobile cross the centerline and attempted to avoid the car, according to police.
“It was not a head-on as I reported yesterday. The car actually stuck the rear axle area of the tractor trailer,” Holden Police Chief Chris Greeley said on Friday. “It struck with such devastating force that the car actually spun around and struck a third vehicle.”
The driver of the initial car, Derick Warren, 30, of Orland, ME crossed the centerline at about 4:45 p.m. close to Maine Military Supply and clipped the rear axle of the big rig. The tractor trailer was driven by Queta Heard, 39, of Georgia, driving for BAB Express LLC, police said. BAB Express LLC is a licensed and bonded freight shipping and trucking company freight hauling business from Marietta, GA.
Why he crossed the centerline is the main question of the investigation, Greeley said.
“It could be anything,” the Holden Police Chief said. “I cannot say for sure.”
Whether Warren had a health situation, fell asleep at the wheel, or was texting on a cell phone are among the unanswered questions Greeley said he hopes wil be answered with the autopsy results and the accident reconstruction report.
Neither the truck driver nor the driver of the third vehicle involved sustained injuries.
Route 1A in Holden, Maine was shut down until around 8 p.m. so the Maine State Police accident reconstruction team could do its work, Greeley said.
Holden, Maine is located 135 miles northeast of Portland, ME in Penobscot County.
