Accident Reconstruction To Determine if Speed Was A Factor

Sioux Falls, South Dakota - Truck and Motorcycle Accident

The Sioux Falls, SD Police Department responded to the report of an accident near Shirley Ave and W. 41st St. Saturday evening for a report of a motorcycle and car accident. The initial investigation reflects that speed may have been a factor in the crash. It is unknown if distracted driving or cell phone usage was a factor. The investigation is on-going and nothing definitive is available at this time.

Police say the motorcycle was headed West on 41st St. while a GMC Canyon pick-up was going East on 41st St. The GMC attempted to turn into a business when the motorcycle struck the truck, bounced off and sideswiped a different truck.

The motorcycle operator was moved to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Witnesses in the area believed that the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed. Police indicate accident reconstruction is on-going to determine if speed was a factor of the crash.

Cell Phone (Cellular Phone, Mobile Phone): An electronic device used for full-duplex two-way radio communications over a network of towers known as cell sites. Low-end or entry-level cell phones are often referred to as ‘basic cell phones’ which are primarily used to make and receive telephone calls and send SMS messages. They may have other functions such as cameras but in general, are specifically communications devices. The more sophisticated ‘smartphones’ offer all of the features that are part of the ‘basic cell phone’, plus advanced computing, camera, music, Internet browsing, GPS navigation and many other applications.
